The new feature Twitter Coins could arrive on Twitter

According to a screenshot posted yesterday on the social network, Twitter is working on a new feature, called Coins.

It would be a system to reward creators by giving them coins which can then be withdrawn in fiat currency, therefore they are not cryptocurrencies. Coins could be purchased through the payments platform Stripe, and then sent to creators. They are also working on awards called Twitter Awards like “Mind Blown”, “Bravo”, “Super Like”, etc.. which will likely be dropped based on likes, comments, retweets and views.

The new Twitter Coins feature could have its own dedicated menu item too, with the purchase screen.

However, given that with Stripe it should be possible to buy Twitter Coins even by paying in cryptocurrencies, it is reasonable to assume that they could also be withdrawn in cryptocurrencies. The new feature is still in testing and so these are just guesses.

According to the New York Times, Twitter is considering holding auctions for the sale of some usernames in an effort to give the company’s revenue a boost. It is not yet clear what usernames will be auctioned, nor the concrete steps to implement the project.
